Introduction: Sir Lowry’s Pass Primary Skool
Another school that has been part of the leadership development programme over the last four years, is Sir Lowry’s Pass Primary Skool. Under the principalship of Mr De Morney, the school has grown and is fortunate to attract many supportive organisations even from overseas. But the school is based in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, which is a very impoverished community facing stark realities on a daily basis that have a direct and dark impact on the children of this relatively small community.
It is a departmental no fees school teaching in Afrikaans. They have 1249 registered learners from Gr 1-7 accomodated in 30 classrooms and 39 educators. The surrounding businesses and charitable organisations are true torch bearers when it comes to a community collaborative effort! We salute you, will attempt to encourage the other Helderberg communities to follow suit, and would be thrilled to keep on collaborating with you.
Strong Schools’ aim will be to build capacity within the school’s leadership, staff, processes and systems in order for the school, as organisation, to be able to absorb the support from outside and channel it effectively towards improved daily teaching and learning for the children.
We do this through organisational development and a change management journey, designed and facilitated by professionally qualified industrial psychologists. We believe in sustainably setting the school up for success – values such as ownership, stewardship, maintenance and excellence must ensure that whatever we invest in the school (money, time or goods), will yield a good return – this being quality education for every leaner, every day. The school is laying the foundation which will be there for the rest of these children’s lives. Who is going to lay Sir Lowry’s Pass Primary Schools foundation with us?
